Recycled trees April 2011

A young couple have just moved into a new house and wanted to turn their back garden into veg-patch. They had to get rid of many of the trees and shrubs to achieve what they want to do. They felt bad about would have to dump them and killed them after dug one of the beech tree out, therefore they put an offer on Freecycle for people who would like to have them.
Mark & I thought those trees could be the bonsai materials and contacted them for collecting.

Two days later we were in this couple's back garden digging all 12 of the beech trees out . It was not a easy job because they have been planted very deep and in a place full of pebbles.

After nearly two hours' hard work  they finally all out of the ground. The seaweed feed has been spread on the roots as soon as they are out of the soil. The seaweed feed is good for the root development. Those beech trees should be doing all right.

They are now in the containers in our back garden and in two or three years time they will be ready for repotting. The plan for them in the future is a group trees.

Rescued Tree 23 Jan 2011

Bonsai Diary

Mark came home with another tree he rescued today (23-01-11), which he saw right outside of post office. We don't know what tree it is till next spring when we see the leaves.
After Mark cut the roots back and cut a big branch off, it is in a training pot and will be staying it for a few years till he can work on it. As for now we can only hope it will survive in the new environment.
